From Death to Life with Melissa

Healing Wings - a memoir; The Writing Process, and Order Today

 It is finally here...Healing Wings!  

After many years of arguing with God and telling Him that I would not be writing a memoir about surviving Guillain-Barre' syndrome, He finally won.  

I knew in my heart that I was suppose to put pen to paper and tell the details of my deathbed experience, and the hope and miracles that abounded during that time, but there were just two problems.  One, I HATED writing.  That is not an understatement; writing was my nemesis.  Moving words from brain to paper was extremely difficult for me -- my former English teachers Lori Kerr and Beverly Still can attest to that.  Yet, with the Holy Spirit and having lived the ordeal myself, this book practically wrote itself.  Two, although I was able to verbally tell people my testimony about the horrors of Guillain-Barre', sifting through the emotions to relive and tell the story on paper was an entirely different experience.  To put it mildly, it was a painful process.

I have had dozens, if not hundreds, of people tell me that I needed to write a book about my journey.  I nodded, smiled, and said, "Maybe one day."  That is until I met Ashley Soden.  Ashley was in my life weekly for our children's home-school co-op, and we immediately hit it off as friends.  Ashley was a writer.  One day I told her part of my testimony of being healed from Guillain-Barre and she said those famous words, "You should write a book."  I looked Ashley straight in the eye and said, "I know!  God has told me to write a book, but I've been running from Him in that area.  Will you help me?"  Ashley agreed to help me, and every single week for the next year she would ask me, "Have you started writing your book yet?"  And I would say, "No, not yet."

On August 18, 2017, after I tucked my children in to bed, I sat down at my computer and began typing.  That was the evening of my 37th birthday.  The next morning I let Ashley know that I had started my book, and would not stop until it was finished.  

I didn't know then (August 2017) that we would have a world wide pandemic at the time of my book release.  It never crossed my mind that we would be having the roll-out of a new vaccination during my book release.  The timing was not planned by me, but I do believe God's timing is always perfect.  My memoir is based on my journey through Guillain-Barre, which in my case was caused by a vaccine injury, but this is not an anti-vaccine book.  The cause of my syndrome is mentioned, and not harped on in these pages.  I believe all vaccines (along with other life altering decisions such as surgeries, medications, marriage...) should be taken before the Lord in prayer and each person and family should ultimately obey God in those decisions.  Having said that, I will say that Guillain-Barre' is listed as one of the first side effects on almost all vaccines, including the newest one being released, so this book could lend an ear to anyone that wants to know what on earth that side effect is or could look like in real life, or give hope to anyone that does suffer from Guillain-Barre' or other vaccine injuries or any long term illness.  

It took me 3 years to write and rewrite my manuscript.  With my first draft I wrote during the night after the kids were asleep, and would weep heavy wracking sobs as I relived every moment and emotion.  That first draft took quite a long time to complete as I would take weeks off at a time to allow myself to heal emotionally when writing a particularly difficult chapter.  

During the second draft I only cried during the truly brutal parts of my journey.  

There were no more tears during the revisions and edits beyond the second draft.  I felt free from the pain that I had apparently held without realizing it was even there.  

Once my manuscript was complete it took another 5 months to have it professionally edited, proofread, formatted, cover designed, and all those details that go into turning a manuscript into a book.  I had no idea what I was doing, so I called in the "big guns" in the form of my dear friend Kiersten Oliphant; a fellow author.  She gave me the skinny on how to self publish, and I muddled through until I had a product that hopefully shines.

Walking Through Fire - Vision from June 2020

 Walking through fire – Vision – 6/14/2020

 Vision I had during 1^st service worship on Sunday morning, June 14, 2020.  This was approximately 5-months ago.  At the time of this vision our church was doing 3 services due to COVID-19 social distancing.  All staff and volunteers were wearing masks.

 Vision:

 During worship the sanctuary around me faded away and now all I see is an inferno.  Not just one inferno, but every city across the nation, and possibly the world, is engulfed in an inferno of fire.  And this is not just any fire, but it is HELL FIRE.  It is consuming, hot, and destructive…

 Then I see believers begin to become small individual bonfires.  Not the same fire that is in the cities, but Holy Spirit, heavenly fire.  As more believers begin to ‘catch on fire’ we begin moving toward each other and unite by joining hands, linking arms, or putting a hand on another’s shoulder.  I notice that as we link up to one another our small individual bonfires become a raging, consuming fire.  I saw our Pastor front and center of this local group of consuming fire believers. 

 We began to walk in one accord, and with purpose through the cities of hell fire.  As we purposefully walked through the hell fire our Holy Spirit fire began to consume the fires of hell so they had no more power, and our Heavenly fires grew larger and more powerful. 

 I noticed that this was not easy work.  It was hard, hot, sticky and purposeful, but we were not harmed or burned. 

 

End of Vision

 

 The amazing-ness of this vision reminded me of movies where you see a fire or explosion and you are holding your breath wondering if the ‘good guys’ survived, then just when you think all hope is lost the ‘good guy’ comes striding out of the fires holding the baby or child or whomever needed rescuing.  

This is a call for Believers both around the world and in the United States to UNITE in prayer.  The hell fires of Satan desire to consume, but we have the true Consuming Fire of the Holy Spirit inside us.  Let us ignite through prayer, worship and unity and watch what the Lord can do as we fall to our knees.  It is not easy to wage a spiritual battle, but it is worth it as we know that the Victory is the Lord's.

White House 2 - Dream - 2008

WHITE HOUSE - 2

I had this dream July 30, 2008  

Feeling in the dream:

Playful, joyful, enjoying our home.  Confused as to why someone would not seek help.

Setting of the dream:

Again, I live in the same huge mansion with my family.  This is our home, comfort place, and dwelling.

Everything in the home is white.  White walls, floors, ceilings, furniture, and fixtures.  The floors are a white tile with white grout.  The room I am in is the HUGE bathroom (almost like a spa).  There is flowing water, waterfalls, fountains and pools everywhere in this room.  It is a place of relaxation.  The actual sinks, toilets, showers and tubs were in little rooms off this great big bathroom/spa area.

Two foreign Men come to our home and are seeking a place to stay.  We allow them to stay for a few days. 

I am in the bathroom playing in one of the pools of flowing water with a fountain in it.  It is fun and joyful.  I am laughing and enjoying myself.  One of the men is in the bathroom and I beckon him to come in.  He refuses, but I persist insisting that the water feels great and it is so refreshing and fun.  The man finally agrees, but instead of jumping in he grabs a flat board to float on, and tries not to touch the water.  He seems fearful of the water. 

(Scene Ends)

The scene skips to me out of the water and needing to wash my hands.  For some reason I need to use the sink that belongs to the second man.  I see the man and ask him if I can wash my hands in his sink.  I can tell he doesn’t want me to, but without speaking he nods that I can.  He seems squirmish.  I go into his sink area and begin to wash my hands, but I find that the sink is clogged.  (In the dream the clogged sink is all I see at this moment).  I walk out and say to the second man, “Your sink is clogged.”  He nods a yes at me.  I then say, “Well, why didn’t you tell me?  This will only take a moment to fix.”  I then go get a plunger and remove the clog.  The second man is upset and walks away seemingly defeated.

My dream ends.

Interpretation:

In this dream the men ask to come in and we allow them to, but it seems that their motive for coming to the church that the home represents is for sabotage.  In the two days that they were here they clogged up our sink on purpose.  It was discovered and easy to unclog, but was not accepted by the foreign visitor.  He acted defeated at the unclogging.  The clog was sin, wrong thinking and purposeful.  We must remove the clogs from ourselves so the love and ministry of Christ can go forth unhindered. 

The first man was scared of touching the water when I invited him to use it because the water represents the Holy Spirit.  It was the cleansing water of salvation, and he was not there to receive the Lord, but to stop the message of the Lord from going forth.

I had trouble writing the interpretation of this dream and the last one.  I understand it in my head, but can’t seem to put it to paper.
